The Hidden Reason Your Business Feels Generic (and the Unique-3 Fix)
Nov 25, 2025
Most entrepreneurs think their business feels "generic" because they haven't niched down enough.
But niching is only one-third of the real issue.
If your message feels flat... If your offer feels replaceable... If your sales conversations feel like you're blending into the background...
It's because you're missing what I call the Unique-3.
And once you understand it, everything becomes easier: your messaging, your marketing, your confidence... even selling.
Let me break it down.
The Unique-3 Framework
To stop being generic, you need to offer:
1. A Unique Solution
Something you do differently from the "big guys"... not better, not cheaper, but different.
2. To a Unique Person
Not "anyone who needs help"... but one type of person who feels like you're speaking directly to their life story.
(For my world, that's the mid-life career shifter who's always wanted a business but fears selling.)
3. With a Unique Problem
Not the general problem people "might" have... but the one thing that keeps them stuck, frustrated, or afraid.
When you combine these three, you stop sounding like everyone else. You become the one person your ideal customer has been waiting for.
Where Most Entrepreneurs Get Stuck
They say things like:
- "I help small business owners."
- "I teach people how to sell."
- "I help you grow your business."
These are fine statements... but they don't create desire.
They don't create recognition. They don't create trust.
And most importantly...
They don't make anyone say, "That's exactly what I've been looking for."
The Fix: Get Hyper-Specific Without Getting Lost
Here's the magic question:
Who is the ONE person who would look at your message and say, "That's me. That's my struggle. That's my solution."?
That person becomes your Unique Person. Their specific struggle becomes your Unique Problem. And the way you solve that struggle becomes your Unique Solution.
A Simple Exercise (Do This Today)
Take 3 minutes and write:
- My Unique Person:
- Their Unique Problem:
- My Unique Solution:
Don't overthink it. Don't make it perfect.
This is about clarity, not complexity.
Why This Matters (Especially for Mid-Life Entrepreneurs)
If you're like the people I work with, you've spent years providing for your family, being dependable, being responsible...
Now you finally want to build something of your own.
The problem is: you don't want to shout. You don't want to pressure people. You don't want to pretend to be someone else.
Good. You don't need to.
You just need to be unique to the right people, not impressive to everyone.
That's what the Unique-3 unlocks.
