Sell Less. Hear "Yes" More.

getting your first customers selling when you hate selling Dec 29, 2025

For decades, traditional sales advice has sounded something like this:

"It's a numbers game." Make enough calls. Knock on enough doors. Send enough emails. Eventually, someone will say yes.

And to be fair (mathematically), that's true.

But emotionally? For a lot of good people, it's brutal.

Most Nice Guys don't hate selling because they're lazy or afraid of work. They hate selling because that approach asks them to:

  • Sell to people who were never a good fit
  • Push conversations that feel misaligned
  • Hear far more NOs than they ever needed to hear

And over time, that does something to you.

It erodes confidence. It makes selling feel personal, even when it shouldn't. And eventually, it convinces good people that maybe they're "just not cut out for sales."

I don't believe that for a second.

The Problem Isn't Selling. It's Who You're Selling To.

Here's the reframe that changed everything for me:

Selling doesn't have to be a numbers game if you start with the Unique-3.

  1. A Unique Person
  2. With a Unique Problem
  3. That Needs a Unique Solution

When you get clear on those three things, something powerful happens:

You stop fishing in the ocean. You start fishing in a cove.

A smaller space. Fewer people. Less noise.

But the people who are there? They're far more likely to say yes.

Fewer Conversations. Better Conversations.

Old-school sales says:

"Talk to 1,000 people to get 10 yeses."

That may work for some personalities.

But I'd much rather talk to 100 people and get 10 confident yeses than talk to 1,000 people and absorb 990 no's along the way.

Not because I'm avoiding effort. But because I respect my energy, and theirs.

When you start with the Unique-3:

  • You eliminate a huge number of misaligned conversations before they ever start
  • You no longer feel the need to convince, chase, or pressure
  • You show up calmer, clearer, and more confident

And here's the quiet truth most sales books don't tell you:

Confidence isn't built by hearing "yes" more often. It's built by hearing fewer unnecessary "no's."

This Is Why Nice Guys Struggle (And How They Win)

Nice Guys don't lose at sales because they're bad at it.

They lose because they were taught to:

  • Start wide instead of specific
  • Chase volume instead of alignment
  • Believe rejection is the price of success

But when you lead with your Unique-3, selling stops feeling like rejection management...

...and starts feeling like connection.

A Question I'll Leave You With

Where would your selling feel lighter right now?

  • Getting clearer on who you're actually for?
  • Or giving yourself permission to stop selling to everyone else?
